Overhead Faulted Circuit Indicators

Cooper Power Systems S.T.A.R.™ PATHFINDER™ Variable Trip Electrostatic Reset faulted circuit indicators (FCI) are designed to quickly and easily locate faulted sections of overhead distribution systems. These FCIs can be installed on overhead uninsulated, unshielded cable, or unshielded insulated cable such as tree wire. The removable pads allow the Variable Trip Electrostatic Reset FCI to be used on a wide range of cable diameters.

S.T.A.R. PATHFINDER Electrostatic Reset FCIs feature a voltage and current sensing design, which indicates a fault when a significant rise in current, followed by a loss of voltage, is detected. Hence, there is no need to specify a particular trip rating when ordering the PATHFINDER Electrostatic Reset FCI. This design ensures fast,reliable and accurate operation.

A long-life Lithium Ion battery provides power to indicate the faulted conditions using a highly visible FISHEYE™display. The battery provides power to the FCI only when a fault occurs, turning the FISHEYE display. This ensures maximum battery life.

The standard SEVT unit will remain in the tripped position for a period of four hours following restoration of normal system voltage after a fault has occurred. Reset times of 24-hours and 4-minutes are also available. This allows time for operators to interrogate the unit. After the factory-programmed reset period, the unit will return to the black or normal position. If the system power is not restored, the FCI remains in the tripped position indefinitely, but can be reset manually using the manual testing/reset tool, SMRT. The unit can also be manually reset following restoration of system power, before the reset time has expired.

The PATHFINDER Electrostatic Reset FCI will reset automatically when installed on a live circuit. The unit can also be reset manually, and requires no charge-up time if installed on a de-energized circuit. Thus, the Variable Trip Type ER FCI is ideal for permanent installations, or as a temporary testtool.
