On line applications, arrester protection is recommended on both sides of the recloser. (If protection is on one side only, it should be on the source side.) In substations, arresters should be on the load side. Cooper Power Systems distribution-class arresters provide excellent protection and are available with mounting brackets to fit Kyle reclosers
